Contraindications
A contraindication is when a colonic irrigation/enema device should NOT be used or should be used, unless with a prescription or direct supervision of a Physician.
1. ABDOMINAL HERNIA; when a client/user has been diagnosed with abdominal hernia or has had surgery for abdominal hernia.
2. ABDOMINAL SURGERY;, after recent abdominal surgery since the administering of this procedure initiates peristalsis and the use of the abdominal muscles may aggravate sutures and the healing of the incision. A minimum of 12 weeks should pass after surgery.
4. ACUTE LIVER FAILURE; when a client/user has been diagnosed with acute liver failure. 3. ABNORMAL DISTENSION/MASSES; if a client/user has been diagnosed with an abnormal colon. 5. ANEMIA; when a client/user has been diagnosed with severe anemia. 6. ANEURYSM; Colonic irrigation/enemas is contraindicated when a doctor has diagnosed a person to have aneurysms. 7. CARCINOMA; when a client/user has been diagnosed with Carcinoma of the Colon. 8. CARDIAC CONDITION; if a client/user has had cardiac surgery or has been diagnosed with a heart condition such as uncontrolled hypertension or congestive heart failure. 9. CHROHNS DISEASE; if a client/user has been diagnosed with Chrohns Disease. 10. COLITIS; if a client/user has been diagnosed with colitis, ulcerative colitis, etc. 11. DIALYSIS PATIENTS; when a client/user is restricted on fluid intake a doctor’s release should be obtained and colonic irrigation/enemas done according to doctor’s order. 12. DIVERTICULOSIS; when a client/user has been diagnosed with Diverticulitis. 13. FISSURES/FISTULAS; when a client/user has been diagnosed with fissures/fistulas. 14. HEMORRHAGING; when a client/user has a flow of bright red blood discharge. 15. HEMORRHOIDECTOMY;, after removal of hemorrhoids a Doctor’s Release should be obtained. 16. INTESTINAL PERFORATION; when a client/user has been previously diagnosed to have intestinal perforations. 17. LUPUS; if your client/user has been diagnosed with Lupus, the client/user should have a prescription. 18. PREGNANCY; colonic irrigation/enemas are contraindicated during the first and last trimester of Pregnancy, but may be prescribed by OB-GYN, as an enema just prior to childbirth. 19. RECTAL SURGERY; after recent rectal surgery. (Should wait a minimum of 12 weeks.) 20. RENAL INSUFFICIENCIES; when a client/user has been diagnosed to be renal insufficient. 21. MEDICATION CONCERNS: If a Physician has ever diagnosed your client/user with any intestinal conditions, or if your client’s/user’s have been on any medication, which may weaken their intestinal walls, your client/user should obtain a doctor’s release. If your client’s/user’s are currently taking medication for ANY condition diagnosed by a Physician, your client/user should check with their Physician to ensure the medication will not be interfered with by the additional water intake and absorption. ATTENTION: THERAPISTS/USER FACILITIES, IF THERE IS ANY CONCERN WHETHER YOU SHOULD PROVIDE COLONICS/ENEMAS, YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR CLIENT/USER’S OBTAIN A PRESCRIPTION FROM THEIR OWN PERSONAL PHYSICIAN.
